The ideas and methods of figurative sculptor Tony Bennett
Tony Bennett's work combines an interest in graphic design, illustration and ceramics. His large, press moulded sculptures, in the form of masculine heads, successfully combine these areas. The forceful features are overlaid with textures and colourful illustrations conveying images of urban grids, camouflage patterns and mythical symbolism.
He exhibits with the Garth Clark Gallery in New York.
Bennett uses an unusual method of decoration, painting detailed patterns in slips onto the plaster moulds before the clay is laid into them. Includes brief technical notes.
