Interview plus sequence, throwing a tall porcelain bottle
German potter, Gilda Westermann, makes her fine porcelain tablewares from her studio in her home on the Exe Estuary in Devon. She worked at a traditional pottery near Stuttgart and in Ireland before deciding to study at Harrow, London.
Her minimal pots are all thrown and shapes have evolved gradually. Their clear glaze reveals the details of the throwing and is only occassionally interrupted by a small decorative detail of an impressed shell.
Includes full sequence showing Gilda making a tall, narrow-necked porcelain bottle plus details of clay, firing and clear glaze recipe (1280C)
