The Rightness of Form   CR 207, May/Jun 2004
Author : Gwyn Hanssen Pigott

Thoughtful words on her serene installations

After serving an apprenticeship with Ivan McMeekin in Australia, Gwyn Hanssen Pigott worked with Ray Finch, Bernard Leach and Michael Cardew in England. She set up a pottery in France before returning to Australia, where she now works. Today her thrown porcelain forms, in the shape of such everyday objects as jugs, bowls, teapots and beakers, are arranged in linear groupings that can be seen as families, tribes or caravans. Here she discusses some of the ideas that inform her work, focusing on ‘truth in form’. Includes clay and firing details plus two glaze recipes for Limoge porcelain.
