Australian potter Les Blakebrough
Peter Timms looks at the career of Les Blakebrough, a major figure in Australia’s pottery community and creator of Southern Ice Porcelain:
"Formidable self-discipline is a Blakebrough characteristic, although it is tempered by boundless enthusiasm and an admirable openness to new ideas, sparking several changes of direction during his fifty-or-so years as a potter. He is, above all else, a consummate technician who derives enormous pleasure from methodical exploration of materials and processes." Includes technical notes about two decoration processes – 'Halo' effects from nitrates and chlorides, and 'deep-etching'.
