Plastic robots, punk and the ceramics of Andy Shaw
Kate McIntyre meets Andy Shaw, whose work is inspired by a wide range of themes including punk and the paranormal.
'One motif recurs – a child-like face with jug ears and yawning gap-toothed mouth. The ‘star child’ munches his way through the information that surrounds him. It strikes me that this is Shaw’s alter ego, processing multiple impressions of the world he inhabits through the medium of clay.'
Includes white slip and tin glaze recipes (1120C) which are applied to Shaw's thrown white earthenware forms. Decoration includes body stains and underglazes, lustre and enamel.
