Kati Tuominen-Niittylä and Karin Widnäs talk to Liz Mitchell
A four-page profile considers two Finnish potters who combine industrial production with their own individual wares. Kati Tuominen-Niittylä is based in urban Helsinki producing handbuilt one-off vessels inspired by traditional forms such as baskets and buckets, as well as mass produced tablewares for Arabia.
Karin Widnäs has built her own home and studio in the rural village of Fiskars, where she slipcasts architectural tiles with relief patterns and makes elegant tablewares.
Includes technical notes from both potters covering simple clay, slip and glaze recipes.
