Six generations of potters
The Barrett-Danes family has had a long involvement
with pottery. Ruth Barrett-Danes recounts the saga of Upchurch Pottery, to which she and her husband, Alan, belong.
"Alan’s first experience of working with clay was helping his grandfather and uncles. The conditions were primitive and often involved rescuing creatures that had fallen into the clay pans; nevertheless he had to make the balls of clay precise and perfect for throwing."
Ceramic Review is sad to report that since publishing this article Alan Barrett-Danes has passed away.
