Emmanuel Cooper admires the modernist flair in Ruth Duckworth’s sculpture
Ruth Duckworth has an international reputation for innovative sculpture, figures and murals, currently being celebrated in a retrospective in the USA. Duckworth’s career took her to the USA from Britain, where she studied ceramics and worked with Lucie Rie. In this four-page profile, Emmanuel Cooper reports on an intriguing – and characteristically nonconformist – sculptor, now regarded as being as important a figure in twentieth century ceramics as Rie and Coper.
