Claudia Clare examines the roots of contemporary female figures in clay
In this four-page focus, Claudia Clare looks at contemporary ceramists sculpting the female figure, and considers to what extent they take their inspiration from clay antecedents or whether they have more in common with contemporary visual artists. Clare argues that post-modernity has redrawn the boundaries around representations of the self, and by extension, around the figure, both in painting and in clay. Features work by Justine Cawsey, Gill Bliss and Sheliza Dinmahomed.
