Marek Cecula experiments with mass products to make subversive one-offs.
In this four-page feature, Glen R Brown deconstructs the Polish artist Marek Cecula’s interplay between the conventions of mass-production and uniqueness. Cecula’s work fits into two groupings, covering both artistic explorations and design for ceramic industry. Repetition of the mass-produced object, and its personalisation, are among the themes dealt with in his artistic work, using techniques such as transfer printing and wood firing. He also designs cool, organic forms for production by Modus.
