Mike Dodd's dedication to function, material and making
David Whiting profiles the career of respected British potter, Mike Dodd. Largely self-taught, Dodd draws on the Leach tradition of studio pottery, making stoneware vessels. His interest in using locally found clays and raw materials for glazes is reflected in the images of his work illustrated in the article. Now based in Somerset, Dodd has an interest in conservation and in philosophies including Zen Buddhism.
Technical notes outline how to find useful minerals from local quarries.
