Inspiration from a Mexican research trip
Lucy Butterwick sets off for Mexico to find inspriation for a new body of work. Visits to Mexico City, Oaxaca and the ancient site of Monte Alban provide encounters with burnished terracotta figures of 200-600AD, fat-bellied vessels with patterns of spots or stripes and the black pottery of San Bartolo Coyotepec - unglazed burnished and carbonised in a wood-firing.
