Craft Potters Association

 

Finance Manager

Location: London/Hybrid | Expected Hours: 14 Per Week | Salary: Up to £24,000

Job Description

The Finance Manager will play a dual strategic and operational role within the Craft Potters Association and its subsidiaries (Ceramic Review Publishing and Contemporary Ceramics). The role involves hands-on financial management, reporting, compliance, and analysis to ensure financial practices are robust and aligned with organisational goals. The Finance Manager will also identify opportunities for process and cost efficiency, and provide critical financial insights to the CPA Council, Director, and budget holders.

Job Requirements
  • Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, with professional certifications (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
  • Extensive experience in financial management, compliance, and hands-on accounting, preferably within a non-profit or arts environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and a proactive, problem-solving approach.
  • Proficiency with financial software (e.g. Xero) and advanced data manipulation skills (e.g. Microsoft Excel).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities

You will lead the preparation of our quarterly management accounts, oversee budgets and forecasting, establish robust financial controls and ensure the CPA meets its statutory compliance obligations. The role offers flexible hybrid working, with an expectation of one day each fortnight in our central London office.

Commercial Manager

Location: London/Hybrid | Expected Hours: 21-28 Per Week | Salary: Up to £25,000

Job Description

The Commercial Manager will lead the CPA’s commercial development across all areas of activity – magazine, gallery, fairs and membership – to strengthen long-term financial sustainability and reduce reliance on any single income source.

Working with the Director and senior team, this role will develop, implement and manage income-generating opportunities that align with the CPA’s values and promote excellence in studio ceramics.

This is a cross-organisational, strategic role selling advertising, both print and digital, building partnerships, attracting sponsorship and commercialising assets.

Job Requirements
  • Significant experience in advertising, partnerships, sponsorship or business development, ideally within the arts, culture or creative industries.
  • Proven ability to translate ideas into deliverable, income-generating initiatives.Confident negotiator and relationship-builder, able to engage senior decision-makers with credibility.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of financial reporting and targets.
  • Collaborative, adaptable and motivated by working across creative teams.
  • An appreciation for craft, design and the values of the studio pottery community.
Job Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver a coherent commercial plan for the CPA, identifying and growing income streams across advertising, sponsorship, partnerships and digital platforms.
  • Develop and manage sponsorship and partnership opportunities for the CPA’s major events, exhibitions and digital channels – building relationships that add both financial and reputational value.
  • Drive advertising and media sales across print (Ceramic Review and fair catalogues) and digital platforms, ensuring an excellent client experience and consistent messaging.
  • Identify and commercialise CPA assets – including content, digital reach, and audience data – to create new, brand-aligned opportunities (e.g. collaborations, retail or content partnerships).
  • Support income forecasting and reporting, working with the Finance Manager to set realistic targets and track progress against them.
  • Represent the CPA externally, building relationships with potential sponsors, advertisers, and partners.

studio potters and ceramic artists. With a legacy of promoting excellence in contemporary
ceramics, the CPA supports a thriving community of ceramic practitioners and enthusiasts.
The organisation operates Contemporary Ceramics gallery and publishes the internationally
renowned Ceramics Review magazine, and organises several major UK ceramics fairs,
including Ceramic Art London.
Our small but dynamic team of 15 staff and freelancers work collaboratively to champion
handmade ceramics, with activities spanning exhibitions, publishing, and events.
