ENTIRE BODY OF WORK CREATED BY WORLD-FAMOUS SUSANNE AND JOHN STEPHENSON TO BE DISPLAYED FOR LAST TIME
ANN ARBOR—Susanne and John Stephenson (1929 - 2015) are internationally renowned for their excellence in ceramics. Susanne has exhibited around the globe since her first solo exhibition in Fukuoka, Japan in 1963. Her ceramics and John’s sculptures may be found in numerous museum and corporate collections throughout the U.S., as well as in Prague, London, Geneva, Toronto, Greece, Denmark, Germany, Korea, China and other locations.
Often referred to as “the dynamic duo of ceramics,” Susanne and John shared a remarkable life of more than 60 years together, traveling the world, creating art, and inspiring others through their teaching. In 2002, they were presented with the highest award of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), with the statement that they have “impacted the field and have had an historical significance relative to the development of ceramic arts.”
“The Complete Collection Unveiled” will take place on Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11th, from 12-4 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
Guests are invited to stroll the studio, gallery and three-acre sculpture garden amidst a festival of tents and tables displaying a lifetime of outstanding art. The event will feature historic works from John’s unique sculptural forms and augers, to Susanne’s gestural vases, bowls, and wall plates that blur the line between sculpture and function. All artwork will be available for purchase.
