Lyon & Turnbull are delighted to return to the Mall Galleries this spring with the latest edition of MODERN MADE, their vibrant cross-disciplinary auction celebrating the very best in 20th-century and contemporary art and design.
This season’s edition places an exceptional focus on studio ceramics, with a significant group of works from the collection of Professor John Chambers, a passionate and discerning collector of British studio pottery. His collection reflects a lifelong engagement with the medium and a deep appreciation for its evolution across the last century.
The sale includes iconic works by some of the most influential names in British ceramics: the refined modernism of Dame Lucie Rie and the sculptural purity of Hans Coper alongside standout pieces by Bernard Leach, Michael Cardew, James Tower, and Alison Britton. Together, these works tell the story of a movement that bridged tradition and innovation, craft and fine art — with a distinctly British voice.
Alongside ceramics, MODERN MADE will also feature standout examples of post-war and contemporary art, design and craft from The Gillian Raffles Collection and other carefully selected consignments. With its distinctive emphasis on the handmade and the personal, the sale is a must for collectors and enthusiasts alike, offering a rare opportunity to acquire works of lasting significance and beauty.
